4-H is all about “learning by doing” — and for many young members, that means raising and caring for farm animals. Kids take on the daily responsibility of feeding, grooming, and training their animals, while also learning valuable skills like record-keeping, budgeting, and public speaking. At the end of the season, they showcase their hard work at local fairs and sometimes take part in auctions. It’s a program that builds responsibility, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for agriculture — one animal at a time.

Please join us (or contact us to bid on your behalf) at the 4-H Open House and Auction at the BCNE on August 16, 2025. The open house runs from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., and the auction begins at 6:00 p.m.

Thank you for your interest, and for supporting farming and the next generation of farmers!
Hi, I'm Gemma,

Hi, I'm Gemma,

I’m 13 years old, and this is my second year in 4-H. I’m a proud member of the South Haven 4-H Club, and this year I’m raising my very first market steer. His name is Tofu—a Hereford-Angus cross with a big personality!

Tofu weighed 982 lbs on July 20th, and I estimate he’ll be around 1,100 lbs by butcher time. I’ve raised him since he was a bottle calf on my parents’ farm, Aurora View Farms. His mom had twins and only wanted his brother, so I stepped in to give him the best care possible.

Tofu has been fed ground organic peas and barley, and he will be finished only on grass. I use rotational grazing, moving the electric fence every day so he always has fresh pasture—making him 100% grass-finished.

I am currently looking for a buyer for Tofu. Purchasing a 4-H steer supports local youth in agriculture, and you’ll be getting high-quality, ethically raised beef in return.

This year, I am raising both a market swine and a market steer. Last year, I used my 4-H earnings to buy a pregnant sow so I could raise my own piglets. “Duck” is one of those piglets. I named her Duck because, when she was first born, she made a little quacking sound!

Duck is a heritage breed and should weigh around 250 lbs by auction time. She has been fed certified organic peas and barley, along with fresh vegetable scraps, making her both healthy and delicious.

Hi, I'm Felicity,

Hi, I'm Felicity,

I am 10 years old, and this is my first year in 4-H. I am a member of the South Haven 4-H Club, and I am excited to be raising a market hog for sale at the BCNE auction.

My pig, Yam, enjoys a diet of certified organic ground peas and barley, along with fresh vegetable and fruit scraps. Every day, I take care of her by feeding, watering, brushing, and giving her plenty of attention.

I am looking for a buyer who would like to fill their freezer with healthy, delicious pork while supporting local youth in agriculture.

Hi, I'm Silas,

Hi, I'm Silas,

I am 11 years old, and this is my first year in 4-H. I am a member of the South Haven 4-H Club, and I am raising a market hog named Ruby. Ruby is quite small because she was the runt of the litter, but I’m hoping she grows to be over 150 lbs by auction time.

Ruby is fed certified organic ground peas and barley, along with table scraps.

I’m looking for someone to buy my pig, Ruby, so I can pay off my farming debt!

Hi, I'm Maggie,

Hi, I'm Maggie,

I am fourteen years old and a member of the South Haven 4-H Club. This is my first year in 4-H. I am raising a grass-finished market steer named Horseshoe, who is an Angus-Simmental cross. I estimate he will weigh about 1,250 lbs by butchering day.

I am looking for a buyer for my steer.

Do you want quality grass-fed beef for your freezer?

I have raised Horseshoe since October on my parents’ farm, Aurora View Farms. For most of the year, he was fed organic peas and barley. During the last two months, I used rotational grazing, moving the electric fence every day to ensure he grazes fresh grass, making him truly grass-finished.
